Good for people
Access to clean drinking water is the bare minimum for a healthy and productive existence! It is considered a human right since 2010, but for 771,000,000 people it is a real challenge to get access to safe clean water. That is 1 in 10 people on earth. That is why we donate 750 litres of clean drinking water to water-stricken communities for every bottle of wine sold! In consultation with Made Blue, we chose to carry out our first project in Ethiopia. In the slums and other poor neighbourhoods of Ethiopia there is often a lack of clean drinking water and proper sewage systems. This causes unsanitary situations that lead to health problems for residents. Particularly children are often the victims: diseases caused by polluted water are still one of the most common causes of death for children under the age of 5 years.
In collaboration with Made Blue, we contribute to the construction of 20 Wash Kiosks in various Ethiopian villages. Wash stands for water, sanitary and hygiene. In addition to the construction of new water facilities, this project also focuses on spreading information about good hygiene and safe use of water.
A large project with a lot of impact. With this project we reach 35,100 people, but specifically 15,300 girls in 20 schools. Due to the construction of safe toilets, washbasins and changing rooms around schools, we hope that the number of girls not attending school in Ethiopia will decrease by 50% for the next 2.5 years.
Good for the planet
Did you know that most of the plastic waste that is polluting our oceans is coming from just a few rivers in the world?
In development regions, water is often sold in plastic bottles and in small quantities: this makes it affordable for people who have to make ends meet with less than one dollar a day.
Every minute a garbage truck of plastic waste ends up in our oceans. 94% ends up on the seabed, 1% keeps driving around and 5% rinses. Plastic waste kills more than 100,000 marine animals every year and 1 in 3 sea turtles has swallowed plastic.
According to experts, the lack of access to tap water is one of the most important causes of plastic waste. The Good Wine contributes to the construction of water pipes and thereby hoping to reduce the plastic pollution on Earth.

CO2 BESPARING
Wanneer mensen aangewezen zijn op vervuild water zullen ze dat koken voor gebruik, vaak op open vuur, met name in afgelegen gebieden. Door schoon drinkwater beschikbaar te maken, hoeft dat niet meer en wordt er dus veel minder hout of kolen gestookt en dat scheelt veel CO2-uitstoot en schadelijke rook.
PLASTIC
Onze waterprojecten besparen ook veel plastic in ontwikkelingslanden. Dat komt doordat mensen zonder toegang tot veilig drinkwater vaak water kopen in plastic zakken of wegwerpflessen, met name in stedelijk gebied.
Dat plastic belandt in veel gevallen na gebruik op straat en in rivieren om uiteindelijk onderdeel te worden van de plastic soep. Een watervoorziening in een sloppenwijk zorgt ervoor dat mensen gaan werken met jerrycans en geen plastic meer hoeven te gooien.
BOMEN BEHOUDEN
Een boom moet een jaar lang groeien voor het vastleggen van 20kg. Volgens de berekening van Made Blue legt 1.000 liter water 7kg CO vast. Daarmee zou je kunnen zeggen dat het ook 1/3 boom behoudt.
Maar niet in alle gevallen wordt hout(skool) gebruikt als brandstof voor het koken van water: dat kan eveneens biomassa zijn of een andere (carbon) brandstof. Daarom rekenen wij met een factor van 50%.
Daarmee staat 1.000 liter water tot 0,15 bomen behouden.
OVER MBF
Wij zijn de ondernemende stichting Made Blue Foundation. Sinds onze oprichting eind 2014 realiseerden we al meer dan 10 miljard liter schoon drinkwater namens meer dan 400 ambassadeurs.
Wij hebben een ANBI-status en werken zo transparant mogelijk.
Daarbij maken we zo min mogelijk kosten door lean & mean te werken.
Een onafhankelijk bestuur ziet toe op ons beleid.
We zijn een goed doel, natuurlijk zonder winstoogmerk, maar ook onafhankelijk van subsidies of giften vanuit overheidsinstanties. Dat maakt ons geheel onafhankelijk.
